Agape M. Labuntog “Pingping”
Pianist
I am the 4th of five siblings born to a church minister. My father was usually given the assignment of leading urban churches. As a pastor’s kid, I was obliged to participate actively in almost all of the church activities. There was this long list of do’s and don’t's, which really put pressure on our faith. Notwithstanding, being in the Church… becoming a regular member and knowing Christ became automatic.
At that time I never did look deeper into what it means to really accept Christ as friend, Lord and personal Savior. At the early age of 10, I became the church organist/pianist. I was assigned to play for all the services and other church functions. I enjoyed playing but not the time I have to spend listening to all the sermons and other parts of the service.
Everything became boring for me eventually. This continued on until I graduated from college and accepted an invitation to serve as the music director of a big church.
Having this new position placed squarely on my shoulders, including the full brunt of the responsibilities it entailed, I began to understand the connection and continuity of each part of the service and how everything plays a big role in the whole worship experience.
It was also then that I became conscious how truly omnipotent God is. I realized that God was real and very much alive! And in everything that happens in my life – be it good or bad – I know that I will always get through because God is there. He said, “Call on me and I will hear you.” I experienced God in His infinite goodness. I don’t exactly remember when I accepted Him to be my personal Lord and Savior, but I am sure of this that He truly is Lord and Savior of my life and no one can take that away from me.
